“Changing Careers – It’s Time To Do What You Love”
Excerpts from Article written by Sue Riley
You’ve heard the saying “Do what you love and the money
will follow.” However, many people have spent twenty or thirty
years building their careers, getting raises and promotions within
one industry or even one company. You may be one of those individuals.
You’ve reached an income level that’s pretty comfortable,
your job feels safe and even easy and, frankly, you’re not
sure what career you might love because you only know the one you’re
doing.
Dave Jones, vice-president of the Career Management Services, Division
of Personnel Decisions International - PDI), stated that today’s
young graduates anticipate having multiple jobs and work experiences
during their lifetime and expect their careers to be a lifetime
education. Jones has experienced many personal employment changes
during his own career – from retailer and business owner to
working in professional sports. Jones said that his own career experiences
created an interest in career transition opportunities and led him
to his current career which is to help people find the right job
and career for their particular interest. Jones has discovered through
both personal experience and his current career management position,
that every job change is an opportunity to seek a new endeavor that
will create greater satisfaction and continued personal growth.
